About Me

I fell in love with painting around 12 years old when I was gifted an oil paint set and a wobbly ancient easle. It was once owned by a school teacher who taught in the early 1900’s. It’s palette and history sparked an appreciation for color and brushstrokes that can be transformed into something intriguing. Working from a studio space within my home, I paint alongside my daily life and family. Driven by a love for visual storytelling, I value painting as a learning process that is refined through trial and error. With an ongoing dedication to learning new techniques, I am grateful for the people who take the time to appreciate the colors and the stories.

At the vulnerable age of four, Theora Jailer was taught that life changes without asking for permission. Small and scared, she was taken from New York along with her two brothers to live on a coffee plantation in Tanzania, Africa, where she is raised and loved by the only person her father could trust…An aging African woman named Mahtab. Mahtab’s stories, music, and smile, are a moral compass and guide for Theora over the next two decades of her life as she finds the answers to the mystery of who she is. Why was she brought to Tanzania? What are the strange symbols tattooed on her wrist? Who really were her parents? She learns through pain, fear, loss, and love, who she really is, and who she wants to be.
